Mark Hans writes letter 1-31-06 to Don Kaake in response to my photos. Read the letter and look at the photos. Today, 1/31/06, when I drove down Peacock Hill Road it was too late in the day to take photos, but it looked like recent Hyland loader tracks on the side of the road. In my experience observing the road conditions, there were a lot of landfill materials tracked on the road. When I did the "brake test" with my 6800# truck (with new tires), it felt like there was a lot of sand mixed in with the landfill clay and materials but the roadway was still more slippery than it should be for safe passage along that section of road...In fact I have not encountered such slippery conditions on any other road I've travelled this winter. A new question is raised by Mr. Hans' letter: is Casella putting sand on the PUBLIC roadway to cover up their waste tracking, and is the NYSDEC too dumb to figure it out? Perhaps Inspector Chad might be better at bird watching, although that might be bad because of his problems with observation.

Hans' letter 1-31-06 pg. 2 Mark evidently feels good when he writes the same letter he wrote a year ago, he confirms to himself he is in control. However the photos are exactly the same, demonstrating the NYSDEC has done nothing about the problem in the past year. Look at the album 1/20/06 compare this album with the Hans letter. It is unfortunately also possible that well placed money in Albany, NY makes the road appear to be clean, contrary to photo evidence shown here. It appears that Mark Hans is protecting the polluter. Holliston Mass. has just shut down a Casella transfer station temporarily when a load of material transported from the Casella site tested positive for radioactivity. Incidents like this raise real concerns about the waste tracked out of the Casella facility in our town, and Mark Hans' cavalier response does nothing to increase our confidence in our safety, as managed by the DEC.
